"My first guess was that your rebuilt valves were retreating into your head"
Yes thats what was happening. Don't know why though. My only guesses are:
1. Originally overtightened 4 of the intake valves on accident due to rocker arm play, which caused damage to 4 of the 8 intake valves. Maybe once the valves were originally damaged, they just kept on getting worse, which kept throwing off the valve adjustments. When I took the head off and looked at the valve springs from the side, the worn valves were sticking up a good 1cm higher than the other valves.
2. I installed a 89 gsxr intake camshaft, but kept the stock exhaust camshaft in there. The exhaust valves were all fine so that makes me think the aftermarket intake cams MIGHT have had something to do with it.
I'm not an engine expert by any stretch, This time I am keeping the engine stock and hoping for the best.
