first service

I just took my 06 Kat 750 in for service. I told the service folks that I wanted synthetic oil. The service man paused and asked why? I said because thats what I want. He said OK. The next day the mechanic calls me and said that he didnt recommend using synthetic with just 600+ miles on it. He recommended that I wait until around 3000 miles. . Any thoughts on this or am I getting the business ?????????
