  • Fuel Help..please!

K so I recently painted my 89 Katana GSX600 and I put the fuel lines together and it now runs like ass. It idles crappy, bogs and dies under any throttle. HELP! I think the petcock isnt getting vaccum or something.

I'm betting if all you did was paint it you have something crossed up..

The tube from the far end of the carbs
(right side sitting on the bike)
goes to the back of the fuel switch. (vacuum on)
Another thing to remember is that there are several
ports on the tank that have tube (or did when new)
    but go nowhere

    Vent:
This is on the under side of the tank.
It allows air to get into the tank (as the gas leaves)
Or allows air out (as heat expands it)
    This must remain open.

    Rim drain.
This is also under the tank.
This allows water (or spilled gas) from the rim
of the filler hole to drain. This does not need to
be open but should not be connected anywhere.

    Level sender mystery vent.
For some reason the cover to the fuel gauge sender
    is vented..

After that are the hoses that run from the
    fuel switch to the carbs.
These are different on a 600 so I am not sure
    how they go.

My guess is that your tank is either not venting
so gas isn't flowing or as the tank heats up the
pressure from the expanding air is force feeding the carbs..

Disconnect all the tank fittings, cap the
vacuum line to the carbs (vacuum on for the fuel switch)
    and try it...
If it run well then you know you have a mixed up hose or a clogged vent.
    (clogged from painting?)
