  • my kat won't start help...

hello all, i bought a 2006 katana 600 from a kid who crashed the bike. it's actually in good shape considering the scratches on the fairings. however, he states that since the crash he's had issues starting it. it push started for him. so i buy the bike and it won't push start. the starter button does dims the lights but no clicking. could the starter be out and would that cause the bike to not push start? when we tried to push start it, it sounds like it wants to fire up but won't.

i've ckd fuel is on, key is on, start switch is on, all fuses good, in neutral, battery charged and even hand clutch engaged...any help would be appreciated..thx

+1^^^^ Just because you charge a battery does mean it is good.
i had my battery on a trickle charger all winter, put in my bike in the spring and guess what, it did not start. So a new baterry would be a good place to start

Ok, the other part is when I push the start switch it doesn't click or even try to start but dims the lights wouldn't it at least try to click? Thx, I appreciate any feed back I'm just new to all this.

all those symptoms point to a FUBAR'd battery

I'm exactly in the same boat, same symptoms, I'll try a new battery, thanks for the help!!
Plato argued that the minimum drinking age should be 18, and then wine in moderation may be tasted until 31. When a man reaches 40, he may drink as much as he wants to cure the “crabbedness of old age”

Jump-start it with cables to a non-running car or truck. If it turns over, your battery is toast.

Would have thought it'd bump/push start though, even with a deceased battery?! Otherwise I concur entirely with your diagnosis of symptoms...

If your battery is toast, the donor battery is trying to dump it full of juice - and it will go absolutely nowhere. That energy is gone, lost as heat. There will not be enough leftover power to start the bike.

                          Get a new battery.
