I'm wondering if it is a system for a pre, and if it is, I am curious what system. Last piece missing to my puzzle.

It's not a stock system, that is for sure. A pre 98 stock system is 4 into 2. The can isn't removable on an OEM system. See how that can just bolts on? A stock system isn't like that. It's a stock Suzuki can, look at the last picture. But it's not a pre 98 Katana stock system. A 98+ stock exhaust doesn't look like that. There are too many discrepancies, I'm 95% sure that no stock GSXF Katana exhaust system was ever like that.

I'm wondering one of the full replacement systems. Like a VH full system or whoever makes them.

I have a post pan and all the required pieces but still need a can. But since I've read some posts on how clearance is worsened with the system, but it's probably still a good option. Just need a can. Hoping for Jim to finally release his...

It's a gsxR exhaust if it's a Suzuki exhaust system.

            Year range is probably right.

The exhaust can bolting to the mid section is a pretty good clue to that.

Yeah, looks like a dinged up late 90's GSXR exhaust to me, here's another example of a GSXR can: http://www.ebay.com/itm/97-98-SUZUKI...-/201148411350

Yes, agreed it's from a GSXR. The pipes are spaced closer together because the GSXR is water cooled, so you won't be able to bolt it up to the kat without some work.
