1997 is considered a "pre" model. If you have a 98-2006 model exhaust, then it can be used with some modifications on an 88-97 model katana.

The considerations are ... full stock post exhaust is longer so the rear peg mounting bracket does not match up to the frame mounting point. The oil pans are different, so the post exhaust collector will hit the pre oil pan. You can swap the oil pan and oil pickup on the pre engine though to resolve this issue.

Also be aware that the exhaust will hit your pre belly fairings in a couple of spots.
