  • 03+ Katana Fender Chop

This one is a bit different from the already posted How-To as the 03+ Kats have the plate light integrated with the tail light. This will show you how to remove that big, nasty shovel, and still be able to use the factory light. It's also what happens when I have a day off, a shop full of tools, and a drive to actually do something.

This is what you start with. UGLY!

    Remove the tail.

This hole is important!! You need to keep this! Cut the line where the shovel is vertical, then file to the horizontal part.

This one is important too, be sure to leave these holes! Your tail mounts to these.

    Rough cut.

    Filed down.

Shavings on my tire from filing the edge.

Drill two holes, add license plate bracket from the factory shovel.

    OOOohhhh, what's this?

    Insert big piece of metal.....

    Chop chop!

    Now I have these.

    Let's go see these guys.

    Gonna need this too.....

    Hey, this thing works!

    I gots a box......

Hmmm....gonna need this tool too. Wouldn't want him to feel left out, ya know?

Oh look, someone put holes in my nice bracket!! How rude....

It's painted semi-flat black...and dried with a halogen light as it's cold as &*^(*&^% out here.

    Bolted on.

    Oohhh,,,,,,sexy!

That's how you keep it clean. What bracket?

    Factory plate light.

Plate is lit so I don't get jacked up.

Thanks! It's harder to do thin metals when it's set up with 035 wire, but I was in a hurry and you won't see them anyway hehe.

I have to ask, is that an MG in the back? And is that one of those older 3-wheelers that are now banned in the US; the ones that caused such a ruckus regarding flipping over and injuring people?

Oh, and the mod looks great.

Unless it's just the angle, the fender looks longer of the 2003+ Kats. Or it could be since it's missing all stuff that mounts to it, that it makes it look that way.

Yes, that is a 1974 MGB Roadster. I have some plans for that one that involve a Nissan SR20DET and a whole lot of fun!

Three wheelers are not banned in the states. They were only banned from being produced and sold as new. The ones out there are OK to have and use, just no new ones. That is my "farm tractor". Shaft drive, hi, low and reverse. It's a beast in the snow too!

Ah yes, that is what I meant. Not so much banned as in all 3-wheelers must be scraped and disposed of, but banned in manufacturing.
