  • swap '07 headlight shroud with 1992 Katana?

I recently bought a '92 Katana 600 (black/purple). I am disassembling the body, and giving it a fresh paint job. My question is to anyone out there that's familiar with these bodies/plastics. Would it be possible to swap a 2007 GSX-R headlight shroud/fairing and headlight with the old one on my 1992 Katana? I want to give it a newer look, and I am willing to do some small plastic work, but don't want to be covering large areas with fiberglass filler. any help?

First, anything is possible with time, $, work, or all 3...

Never mix fiberglass and ABS together as one piece. They won't stay together, and will eventually seperate.

Most of what you want to do can be done with ABS cement (it's liquid abs basically).

Your probably gonna have to report back to us what you had to do. I don't know of anyone who posts on the forum that has done that at this point. You wil probably also need to do some custom fairing stay bracket work on the front end to get it to properly hold.

Be sure to take lots of pics, and let us know how it's going and turns out.

I will for sure be posting pics. I'll have to look into the ABS cement. I've really only dealt with fiberglass and steel bodywork. I think the look would be worth the time. Thanks for the response.

Could you give me a link to that Co.? It'd be worth taking a look at. One of the reasons for the change is to give the entire front-end an updated look, not just the headlight itself. I'd definitely like to see the kit though...

You may also want to check out Waltari's Frankenkat project. He did a pretty significan't front end swap out on that bike as well, just not a GSXR specificly.

@kreylyn Thanks for the link.. Gives me a different look on how to do it. I could possibly just buy the newer headlight alone, and make different holes and use filler on the original plastics to create a one-of-a-kind front end.
