Muffler on '96 750FT

Has anyone removed the heat shields for repair and then re-reiveted them back on?

I have a dent on one side, but it looks like a pretty involved process.

I don't have a pre but do you mean there are shields riveted to the muffler shell? If so aren't they spot welded?
Or do you mean the actual muffler core needing to be removed to repair the shell? If so it does not come apart easily, especially on an older bike. It would probably ruin them in trying to get them separated.

Right, there are spot welds. I would think the only fix would be to tap the welds and replace with bolts or rivets. That's why I think it's probably a non-starter, but you never know what someone might have thought up as a work-around.
