Has anybody ever shortened their handlebars? I am wanting to, but need some input as far as like od dislike?

Never heard of shortining the bars, I wish there was a way to bring them down further like a sport bike bars...closer to the tank. If anyone knows anything about how to do that it would be nice as well...thanks
