2005 Katana project, seat is stuck

I bought a 2005 Katana today as a project bike, and the seat will not come off. I have a CBR, and the seat pops up as soon as you unlock it, but this Katanas seat will not budge. I was able to pull it back enough to see the cable engaging, but still nothing. I also applied pressure to ensure it couldn't go down any further. I can't get at or replace the battery or remove any body work with the seat on. Any suggestions? Is this a common issue? Thanks in advance.

There is a way to unlatch it from underneath. I'm not familiar with the details, but if you use the search function (upper right, use the google function) you should be able to find several threads detailing it.

Did you push down on the seat while unlocking? It helps
