    This is about a Pre.

Tired of getting a great view of either my elbows or traffic two lanes over and am looking into options.

Was looking at things and wonder if anyone has tried using the stock mirrors but swapping sides and rotating the mirror hear around 180 degrees? The effect would be that the mounts point downward, mirrors sitting quite a bit lower, and a better view (maybe?). Now from the style side of thing it might be...interesting/unique/ugly as sin?

Haven't taken the time to try it myself yet so I'm wondering if anyone has tried it?

Well, off hand things wouldn't match up on the mounting quite as well... the shape of the mirrors on one edge is lobed or think of a tear drop folded in half. Swapping sides and reversing the direction is will still not match things up.. Not saying it can't be bolted down like that, I 'm not sure yet without doing it... but it's certainly not going to look right I know, but I would hesitate to say that it's possible with out some modifications.

But... to address the issues your really having, it's not as much the stalks, but the actual placement of the mirror position.

I know, you have adjusted it multiple times and it always is a problem, but... I've seen people adjust their mirrors and it's always the same way with out taking into consideration of the actual full range of the adjustment that can be made.

The most common mistake when they go to adjust it, no one really moves it. They just pivot it slightly to change the angle where it's at currently. The thing is on a ball basically... you raise/lower the mirrored section pretty significantly to get past the "nothing but elbows" problem by simply adjusting the height of the tip vertically. This is rarely done though, and thus the common complaint. By moving the very tip you can get a completely different angle when you make the minor adjustments for view.

Now, I'm not saying this will work for 100% everyone, but... I will say that most times keeping this in mind has resolved the issues personally.

Thanks Krey, a fountain on knowledge, as usual.

Played with them once again on the way home (30 degrees and falling!). I can get them a bit better but wonder about a different position entirely. Might get out and try my swapping idea once it warms up a bit. I knew some fab work might have to be done so that doesn't scare me off.

As they are adjusted now its just a head bob either way to see half the lane behind me or to see the lane next to me. When I'm just riding half the mirror is covered with elbow, the other half with lane markers and part of the lane next to me.

I was thinking of having 1" mirror extensions made that mounted at the base. I mocked it up using long Allen bolts and it's much better that way.

I have a post and the mirrors still give you a nice view of your elbows. I was thinking about looking into a convex mirror glass, but I have a lot of other things to look into for my cage before I can put any more money into the bike.
