I honestly don't see why anyone would charge you over $500 for it. Black is oneof the cheapest colors for me to buy. DuPont 99k pitch black is around $40 per quart, which is abot twice as much as you would need to spray it. I use Nason clear (also from DuPont) which is also around $40 per quart, add reducer for the base, activator for the clear, and you have a bit less than $200 in supplies. Pending you don't have any major bodywork to have done (I've seen your thread, seems as if you are handling the most of it), simply breaking down the existing surface that is there and then respraying isn't a daunting task.
Another option you could do is use DuPont Centari, which is a single stage paint system. I have had great experience on my own bike using the 99A pitch black, which is also less than $50 per quart, around $20 for hardener, and $20 for reducer. $100 gets you enough paint for two bikes, and it buffs out and shines just as nice as something with a clear over it.

Probably because most shops don't want to shoot a job that small would be my guess
I've had good results with the dupli-color paints too... and all their stuff comes ready to go. Mix the paint with the activator and spray.-Steve

I charge 125.00 a pannel plus materials. All i really use it Xotic colors. I would do the paint work if you wanted to ship the parts. My work comes with a full waranty against paint flaws that may show up months down the road. I dont use single stage paints because they never look as good buffed out ad a good quality clear coat does. check out my temporary web page at www.myspace.com/zacksbodyshop good luck with your paint.
