  • What distance?

    Hi people,

For my streetfighterproject I am going to fabricate a custom bugspoiler and some pieces to fill up the tank indents.
I am familiar with this, witnessed and helped dad quite offen, but I am not sure about the minimal distance I have to keep between the hot parts and the plastics.
There are lots off original fairungs and such in the shop so I am using ABS if that is important for you to know.

thanks and best off regards, Anoucka

Well , I seem to recall a certain Katana with an 1100 engine in it that melted the edges of the fairings ...... I'd keep plastics at LEAST .....3" from the headers . But hey , if you wanna find out for SURE , and you got the extra bits floating around , just mount one a few inches from the headers and see how close you can get it before it starts to get soft .
I am a fluffy lil cuddly lovable bunny , dammit !

      Hi md86

This trialmethod was offcourse the first possiblity which crossed my mind but I hate to brake things if not necessairy.
None the less it looks like I have found the ultimate question all you experts have no answer for.

      Noobs!!!! LOLLLL

which area are you concerned about? Headers? Motor? I haven't read much on the forums lately but i do recall seeing an upper that you were planning on using, which leads me to believe that you are probably concerned more about heat from the motor as opposed to the headers. (are you putting lowers on as well?).

If it is in fact motor heat that you are worried about, I would think that 2" should be plenty of clearance. It is really difficult to answer because depending on the fairing design, there may be plenty of airflow in to help draw the heat away, or there may not be any airflow, in which case the heat will just collect. Any closer than 2" and I would consider using a heat shield similar to this: http://www.heatshieldproducts.com/bg...shield_mat.php

          Hi Joe
I meant the bugspoiler in particular.
I did not know off the existence off these heatshields, great tip! with this I guess things will not be that critical.

Thank you and best off regards,

What distance? I would travel anywhere with you Anoucka , but who's funding the trip? j/k

But the suggestions above were pretty good, another good suggestion is to take a look at another bike that has fairings, and check the clearance between the fairings and motor, exhaust, oil pan. That should give you a pretty good idea to.

Ah, okay. That makes more sense now

Anyway, I took mine off the Katana because the 4 into 1 exhaust was cooking it apart.

You can empty the tank out, clean it up, Then tack weld some nails upside down so the head of the nail is to the tank, then use a slide hammer to get the indents out! alot of bodyshops use that way.

You have Original fairings in the shop? what years? im looking for fairings for my 2001!

I doubt the shipping from Europe would be cost effective.

I will look for the price off shipping but I tend to bet it will cost way to much.
