36 Days and counting..............

Okay for those who don't know...... I've swapped a low mile 01 750 engine into my 91 Kat 600, and cleaned / painted / maintenanced pretty much every part on the thing.....last but not least was a paint job.

Found a local guy who paints on the side. I've personally seen his work on bikes and he does a great job......that being said...

He's had my stuff for 36 days. He' constantly in touch with me, he contacted me and volunteered to lower the price of the paint job. The problem is that he's having issues with the silver color. He's using all Dupont products, and everytime he lays the silver it fish eyes on him. The black pieces he's painted look great. He's tried differenr reducers / ratio's everything. Monday he contacted me and he had bought a different primer based on a recommendation by the paint guy he deals with, as neither could figure out why the silver was messing up like it is.


Any of you paint guys seen something like this? I mean if it was bad prep, the black would be effected, but it's not.

It's driving HIM and me crazy. At this point this paint job is probably costing HIM money, not counting his time..........

Just venting I guess........I haven't ridden in over a month and it's frustrating.

yeah i am quite positive this job is now getting into his pocket. But +1 to him for not giving you crap. Nice to see people that take pride in their work. Most shops would have been like ehh F*** it....and sent you home with crap with a discount maybe.....

im at 27 days and counting that my kat has been at the shop for the finals pieces of the project, it is very frustrating i feel for you man im going through the same thing at the moment. only thing to do is take it a day at a time.

sometimes paint does funny stuff like that. Take him up on his discount and try to be patient. At least he is communicating with you.

My bike has been in the shop for 25 days now but it might be released this weekend. I am keeping my fingers crossed. he was up till 3 am last night working on it and going to pull some more all nighters as he is already a week late.

Good on this painter for offering you a discount. My lid is already being done for free as is so I can not ***** too much but should it go past this weekend then I will want something for my pains. Too beautiful of weather to be sitting....

Is it a Chrysler color? I had some real problems with a chrysler silver I used on my brother's old bike. I ended up doing very light coats, wetsanding with 600 in between coats before I finally had a decent base worth clearing. Took me a while to figure that one out, and probably a good 6 'mist' coats of the silver as well.

Is he shooting a sealer over the primer? Which Dupont line is he using?

yeah i have had trouble painting silver and a freind on mine had alot of trouble with it to the point were we never thought i was going to work... atleast he is staying in touch with you and not being shady...
