WD40 only works on certain types of adhesive and usually doesnt on older/aged decals. The idea is to not leave the adhesive behind in the first place. Avoid the problem before it arises. There may be a few small spots that dont come up even if your technique is perfect but use the proper chemical for the job in these cases...3M adhesive remover,goof off, or goo gone xtreme will take just about anything off if you let it soak for a minute and then use a terrycloth or other "textured" cloth to scrub a bit. But again, do the initial removal correctly and there wont be much left behind to worry about.EDIT: the wax wheels mentioned above work great also if you leave some adhesive behind. Just take care not to stay in one spot too long or you risk "burning" your clear/paint in that area.
