  • Alcohol and Paint

I got some nice decals from www.tapeworks.com. The directions say to use isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol to clean away any residue before applying the decals. My question is, will the alcohol hurt my paint and/or clearcoat? I have seen it in 50% and 70%, which should I use? My bike is an '06 600. Thanks.

Edit: It also says to use a window cleaner with ammonia in this 3 step process:

    Goo Gone 1-2 times
    Windex 1-2 times
    Alcohol 1-2 times

Will any of this stuff hurt my paint?

Denatured alcohol should take care of it all, I don't know about the 3 step process.

With the subject line "Alcohol and Paint" I was expecting pics of your bike that you painted after having a little too much of grandpa's cough medicine.

I thought that subjet line would attract some attention.
                  BTW, what is "denatured" alcohol?

I used to lay decals when I worked at a detail shop a few years back and we used to use Achole on Cotten Swabs for smaller decals and rags the size of paper towels for decals more then a foot long. The alchole will not hurt the paint it just cleans the dirt off of the paint that the eye can't see.
