Something to look out for on ebay chains (and may have been me not doing due diligence).
Not all 530 chains are created equal. I bought a new chain and don't have many miles on it at all (<2000 I think) and it has failed already (master link ate it, thankfully at < 5 mph).

Went to the bike shop to compare (wanted to get a new master link just to get home) and the counter guy informed me that the tensile strength was WAY low for the kat (3500 lbs vs. min 6800 recommended on a katana).

Needless to say I came away with a new RK chain rated appropriately for the bike. Pay attention to the specs!

This is also the reason we frown on 520 conversions on the Kat....

The 520 RK Xring chain has a tinsile st rating of 1/2 again MORE than the OEM 530 chain (which is an RK 530 Oring chain).

        Just FYI....

Well, here is the problem... as my interpretation of that general statement would include the vortex 520 conversion kits (Vortex rear sprocket, steel front, and RK X ring 520 chain)...

Same kit I got from someofallparts directly basically... $129.99 + $20shipped to my door when I bought the kit.

No name brands, I would be wary...

            Just trying to clarify.

Another thing i had to kind of argue with the counter Guy to get a 530 at all...his book specified a 520. I've had at least one other retailer say the same thing. Wtf?

              I did buy a nice RK 530

Whats the best sprocket setup for my 2000 Kat 750 with a '95 750 engine in it? Stock it was 15/45 now its 14/45. I feel like Im topping out at around 140ish with my speedo not working but thats a whole other issue. I ride highway everyday 50 miles to work and 50 miles back on it. I like the front setup with -1 now but I wanna get more topend speed to increase to around 165-170ish how would I get that? By the way 98+ OEM setup is 15/45.

Why stop there? Put a 30t on the back and you'll have a higher top speed than a zx14.

Why do you need to go that fast?

I bought my bike for $1000 so I consider it a "budget" vehicle. I think as long as I keep up on maintenance of this chain, it should last long enough. Next time I'll probably get the Vortex kit just for the colored sprocket but I'm excited to see how this setup performs.
Been riding with the new chain and sprockets from eBay for about 600 miles riding daily to/from work. No issues, nice and quiet so far.
