  • Putting Front Caliper on Katana

I just replaced my front tire, and was installing it onto my bike and my left brake caliper is to tight to put on the brake pad. I think my brake may accidentally have been pressed sometime during taking the tire off or putting it back on with the brake caliper off the bike. What do I need to do to get the brake pads apart again so I can put the caliper on my bike?

Wrap your caliper in a cloth.......try using a plumber's wrench to push the pads back in. Works for me.

Also, remove the cap front the master cylinder to reduce the pressure on the calipers.

        1. Remove caliper from the forks and install both brake pads.
        2. Loosen the Master Cylinder reservoir cap.
        3. Insert a flat bar between the brake pads and using a wrench for leverage, twist it to push the pads apart.
        4. Remove brake pads.
        5. Re-install caliper on forks.
        6. Install brake pads.
        7. Pump the brake a couple of times to bring the pads to the rotor.

ummm if the claiper is in good shape you can push the pistons in by hand with the pads removed.
if its dirty and corroded you may need a c clamp to push the pistons back in
