  • Front tire nearly fails inspection after 2600 miles??

Went in for PA state inspection yesterday ... brand new bike a year ago, and 2600 miles on it now ... they said to watch the wear on the front tire, because it was down to 3MM and the state minimum is 2MM (or is that 2/32"?). That sounds like pretty low mileage for needing a new tire already.

How many MM is the groove depth on a new tire anyway? And how many miles should I reasonably expect to get out of a stock front tire on a '06 Kat?

    Thanks!

I barely got 4k out of my front macadam. It's just a cheap, crap tire.

I'm pretty diligent on the tire pressure, and I actually keep it a couple PSI on the high side because I'm 240. Good point though!

Did they say if it was cupping or scalloping?

What type of tire is it? Do the 06's come with macadams?

Also what type of riding are you doing?

              It's a Dunlop.

No cupping or scalloping. I checked it out pretty closely, and the groove depth isn't much shallower than near the chicken strip. The wear indicators aren't even close to being exposed. I think they're just being cautious ... or maybe they want to sell me a new tire.

But at least it reminded me to keep an eye on it.

Tires for the most part are only 8/32 deep on tread depth. Does not take long to wear it down if the tires suck.
