      Saddly it actually doesn't. Have you noticed how much slop is in there? Especially when you go to tighten the rear axle nut down.

          The stock marks are unreliable. At last year's rally I adjusted the chain on my bike per my normal marks/chain methods... and I was still off when I checked it with the laser tool.

            I've had this bike for 10 years and worked in it from day one,
            i have never needed a tool to do it....my 91 kx 80 had the same kind
            and never needed a tool........................

              The issue is... that the marks might not even be lined up right... since they are just a plate on the swingarm and they aren't in a fixed position.

                Find somebody with a tool and see how far off you are. After using my alignment gauge, the markings are off by half a notch from side to side. That is enough to make a big difference in chain and sprocket wear.
