  • 99 front brake change

    Quick question(s).

Are the front pads installed the same way the rear is installed? I have changed the rear by myself and if the fronts are the same it should be a piece of cake.

If not, does anyone know of a post writeup... the only thing I can find on teh interwebz is a 96 rear caliper swap.

    Thanks!!!!!

No, the front calipers and pads are slightly different but the procedure is the same.

    Remove the calipers
Take the top off the master cylinder
    push the piston back
    install new pads
    install one rotor
    repeat on the other side
    replace cap on MC

They are still held on with pins, which are in place via clips, and the pads are secured by the springs that come over said pad... correct? (if that makes any sense)

Rears, not my model, etc. [ame]http://youtu.be/ju1rZvvwijA?t=26s[/ame]

      Thanks steve.

Er, it's been some time since I've done front pads on the bandit or a kat... but again... brake pads are brake pads. Do one side at a time and if you screw something up go look at the side you haven't touched yet to figure it out.

Thats how I figured the rears out, only using pictures I took before as reference. Im sure it wont be hard, but my bike is an hour north and im getting anxious.

          Thanks again!

Just make sure you push the pistons back enough to clear the new pads, you'll be fine.

If you take both calipers off to start put something between the pads on the off side caliper so the pads don't squeeze together.

Do you need the service manual?

Seems like I remember something about the pad retaining springs. Install them the wrong way and it pushes the pads at the rotor instead of away from. Other than that I don't remember anything special.

                  Just because they sound the same doesn't mean they are: there≠their≠they're; to≠too≠two; its≠it's; your≠you're; know≠no; brake≠break

^You are correct. They go on the inside with that little flap going outside. The PO of my bike did it backwards (and left the shim in on aftermarket pads) and so I had to replace pads AND the rotor. Thankfully EBC sent pads for free and I got a discount on the new rotor.
