  • Rear shock wheeze

    Hey all,

I just put in a "new" rear shock off of a 06 gsx600 and it wheezes when I unload it.

Sitting on it, if I stand up, it'll make a wheeze or whoosh kind of noise.

Additionally, there seems to be a lot of suspension travel when I sit. I haven't had the chance to actually set the preload though, but that's just extra info.

Is the wheezing/air noise normal/healthy or a sign of a bum shock?

    Thanks!

I guess in the interest of full discloser, I should say I don't actually have it on a Kat, but on a GS500. Nobody on GSTwin.com knew anything about it, so I figured I'd go to the source.

    You mean GSXR600 or GSX600?

Only thing that would come to mind on that one since it is not a gas charged shock that someone had it upside down for some time and the oil is on the other side of the piston.

Is that something that will eventually work it's way out as it sits with the right end up?

I thought that the flow of oil through the piston was what produced the damping, but I may be thinking of way to basic of a system.

          Thanks!

Yeah. I put it on weekend before last, rode it about 30 mi, and checked it again this weekend; and it still does it.

Turn the black dial up to #4 and try it again.
