  • Looks to be a good shock?

    So after some reading, I think I've found a good shock for my price range.

    It's still more than I'd like to pay but for the kind of riding I do(sport touring) it's looking like a good choice. What do you all think? Please dont wait til after I buy this to tell me about the killer $400. shock!

    IMO you have basically zero adjustments and you are paying for the name, Yes you get better valving but you can have that with a less expensive shock.

    EDIT: How much you weigh?

            Oh won't be done with mine by then.

            This one has a Hi&Lo compression adjustment Rebound adjustment and of course Pre-load.

            Well if ya need one that soon you can

            (1) Get a post 750 Kat shock and send it to me for gold valve install and you will have more adjustment than with that Penske unit.

            (2) Buy the Penske unit.

              What brand is the one in the pick? What will a gold valve/install cost me?

              and, when will you want to sell the one in the pic?

                The one in the pic is mine but I have all the components to make another. The one shown is not off anything in that all the components are from something else.

                Shock body= 92 GSXR
                Shaft= 08 GSXR
                Piston= Racetech Gold Valve
                Remote Reservoir= I built that
                HI&Lo adjustment on reservoir= 08 GSXR

                You can get a gold valve for about $140.00 and I made caps to change the stock post remote into a chargeable body. I will give ya the cap if ya want it. I wouldn't charge anything to do this for ya if you decide you want something along these lines. You buy the parts and that is it.

                EDIT: I should mention that I would still recommend a post kat 750 shock as that is what I would put the gold valve in.

                  So I have a question here. I have a post 750. How much would it cost to upgrade it to something like what is in the pic? I have only limited suspension knowledge.

                  Thanks,

                    Hey Marc,

                    The cost of the gold valve would be right around $140.00 but you can't see that in the image. The stock post 750 kat has a remote reservoir as well as compression and rebound adjustments. It also has the pre-load adjustment for the spring and is rebuildable. The only thing required is a end cap for the remote reservoir so you can charge the shock back up with nitrogen after the rebuild. I have the end caps so that is not a issue.

                    So you would be looking right around $250.00 USD to have it gone through and assuming all parts are ok that would be the price plus shipping.

                      well I was really stuck over the $600. for this shock. Some folks thought the Post 750 Kat shock, reworked with a better spring was the way to go. But at the near $400.+ I'd need to spend, I felt it would still be a stock shock. I friend made a good point, when he said, whats the big deal? spending $600. on a good shock? when you spend half that on tires at least once a year! I said he was right and today I bought the shock.

                      After all, most everyone on the forum had nothing good to say about the HyperPro fork springs and I bought them, installed them and love the way they work!

                      Will take a couple of weeks to get. I'll give a review later.

                        What sets a $600.00 shock apart from a reworked stock shock?

                          Design! A gold plated turd is still a turd.

                          I've asked dozens of folks whats the best route. All said the low end Penske would be a much better shock than any rebuild stocker. You Tmod were the only person to say different. So I went with the masses on this one.

                          I'm sure your system works for you, and if I had a Nitrogen machine to charge shocks, I'd play around with different shocks as well.

                            Have you ever seen the inside of the Ohlins shock? How about a Fox?

                            Please enlighten me as as to why the stock design is a gold plated turd.
