  • Radar Screamer

It finally shipped and install was a breeze. Let's not turn this into an anti-speeding flame war, but hopefully we'll try to keep it on topic. My Kat is my commute bike, and getting a ticket is just not an option. I keep it safe and sane, but sometimes we end up over the limit; it just happens. And in LA, it's survival!

Onto the product, if you aren't familiar with what it is, google it. The screamer allows you to actually HEAR your detector at highway speeds plus with it's insanely loud piezo siren, with 3 mode volume switch. I'm going to play around with mounting options for a while, but due to the 995's incredible range, I'm not too concerned where it is right now, as I'm not concerned about laser (that what the laser blinder will be for).

After some road testing, I'll post more results, and pics are on there way.

Just food for thought. My RADAR in my unit is faster than every detector I have put it up against. If I see a detector they are getting a ticket for whatever they were stopped for. I stopped a guy with a $200 detector that I watched go from 50mph to 70mph (in a 40) on the RADAR before I saw him hit the brakes. When I stopped him I asked him when the detector went off and he said "about a 1/4sec. before I hit the brakes..."

I laugh when i stop ppl with detectors.

If you are going to speed, just man up take the ticket. Detectors arnt worth a damn, easy way for some company to take your money.

only takes .5 a second for me to lock in a speed. More then enough time. Can't slow down that fast.

but hope it works out for you.

Then again, I've gotten out of countless tickets....

A $200 detector won't do squat.... It's only the premium Bel's, Valentine, and Passport units that are actually effective.

But please don't take me as a reckless speeder. I commend you guys on doing your jobs and saving people from themselves. But in LA, going 65 is NOT safe when traffic moves at 80+. And due to bring on a bike, I stick out a lot.

Radar detectors are generally only protection against mass-scanning cops (such as ones parked at the side-of-the-road with the radar turned on to scan everything that goes by while they do their paperwork). If you target me specifically, of course you're going to be faster/better than the radar detector... but if you target someone else in front of me, I will get some warning ahead of time with a decent to great detector.

On a related note: anyone seen the new Escort 9500ci? It's only $1600 AND would never fit into a Kat!
But the concept (swiped from the Europeans) combines radar detection with GPS to rule out false-positives not just once but permanently.

          Cheers,

+1 on that. I find someone traveling my pace or a bit faster and drop in a comfortable distance behind them. THEN my radar detector goes off when they get tagged.

            Is it foolproof? No.
Have I improved the odds in my favor? Yes.

That's what it is all about....

All I got to say is my passport has saved me at least 20 times over the $400.00 price tag i paid for it. Lucky for me the cops around me are to lazy to turn there guns on and off. So they just leave them on and I pick them up way before I see them. If you buy quality radars they do help. Esp. with the pop detection they have now. Im not using one to speed but I sure like to know where they are.

                Thanks for the input guys.

There are already eleventy kabillion forum threads online debating RD's. I can't imagine us ending the debate here.... Ideally this was supposed to just be a product review.... But I guess the cops threadjacked it first (cue song, breakin the laaaaw by Judas Priest).

Everyone made great points and that'll just about sum up the best points of the whole debate. Anyone who has used a GOOD detector and wants a cordless, no battery, hardwire solution to receive alerts, definitely check out the screamer.

How can anything be cordless and no battery? Solar panel?

Oh yeah, and radar detectors worked just fine for me....... you have to know that they aren't going to protect you from instant-on, unless that instant on is used on somebody ahead of you on the road. But if you have some light cover-traffic, preferrably in an area where people tend to speed considerably, they can really save your a*s.

Cordless as in no wires running to your helmet for head phones or speakers.

No batteries as batteries for HUD or in helmet indicator (H.A.R.D. System), which require periodic replacement. All power for the Screamer is from the bike's electrical system, and everything stays mounted on the bike; no wires to the rider.

Yeah, there are few alternatives to the screamer.... The HARD system is hardly waterproof, and has an ugly wart type contraption you have to attach to your helmet. And to boot it requires expensive batteries!

(NOTE: all tongue-in-cheek, purely for funny's sake, for those who don't necessarily get my humor)
I just want a system that shoots a laser beam out and blinds the cop when the detector goes off... I don't need to hear it, see it, deal with it -- I just need to the officers in the speed trap to be unable to read their display temporarily

I decided to skip my lunch at work and went on a 40 mile ride in search of radar...

... And I got a hit! Boy is this sucker loud! It's loud enough to scare the people next to you! I'm going to have to play with the volume and turn it down a bit. The last thing I need is a potential speeding ticket turning into an "impersonating an officer" charge.

Oh yeah, and I wasn't pulled over and I did NOT get a ticket. I got about a 1 mile heads up moving Highway Patrol unit on an urban highway. Sucks huh that laser only works when the unit is stationary? And that's why radar will be around despite the existance of lidar.

I can see it now... The "CP Cop Blinder" .... Blinds 'em at the source.
