This won't help you for sealing, but my tank was rusted pretty badly on the inside. I rigged up a electrolytic rust removal setup using a car battery charger and let it sit for a couple days. Worked great. Unfortunately I did not take pictures.

Oddly, what I haven't seen on the market in quite some time (at least marketed to motorcyclists specifically) is a tannic-acid based rust converter that instead of stripping the rust away, actually converts it to magnetite (aka "Black Rust", a metal stronger than traditional mild steels tanks are made of).
Cheers,

Personally, I use the POR-15 method for any bike I'm going to keep, because it's an one-time fix that lasts forever if done right.

I am not sure what the best way to cure the problem is but my bike had severe rusting in the tank when I got it. I used some abrasive media and soapy water to break all the big chunks out and try to clean it the best i could before starting the Kreem kit. I followed the instructions exactly as they said. And it did fine for a year and a half. Now I am waiting on another tank to be delivered that I bought from a fellow katrider because it was springing leaks all over the place at the rear of the tank. I would have considered the POR sosution but I am going to paint it(hopefully this weekend) and was not willing to take a chance of trashing my paint because I knew I would never get around to doing it again.
