Once I get the '99 stem liberated from the bottom yoke, I can get the last of the dimensions I need then I'll get to the machine shop and start work on the new stem..

Why do you need a new stem? Can't you just do a bearing swap?

The 99 stem has 30x55x17 bearings both top and bottom, I have a top bearing solution.
The srad stem is longer over all then the Kat.. but the distance between the bearing races is shorter than the Kat. I have a spare pre frame and with the bottom bearing removed from the srad stem, inserted in the head tube, the upper race doesn't come up far enough for the bearing to ride on the stem where it should and with the top bearing in it leaves about 4 turns of thread for the lock nut.. and that doesn't include the dust cover and washer.

A bit more progress made today. The ducati shock and pivot arrived Thursday afternoon, but is pretty useless without the swingarm, so that is chunked off to the side for now. I started stripping the frame this afternoon and will post some more pics tomorrow after the camera charges up some. The plan right now is to pc the frame a candy red color to simulate a red anodized look. That's pretty much all for now, stay tuned for pics.

Waltari, do you have all that information for a 1990 GSX750?

Thought I'd add to 542 thread... I went to the machine shop today and got the stem pressed out of the lower yoke. I popped it in the freezer last nite so it was good and cold.. took it out today and put on ice. The cold shrunk the stem enough and it being 95 or so here today, a few minutes out of ice to start to warm up and it pressed out easily.

                    Another update

I got the first of two swingarms in the mail Thursday and put it up against the bike just to see what it was going to look like, and after a brain fart moment of panic thinking the frame was going to need modification, I realized it would work but that the lower part of the subframe will either have to be moved or the entire subframe will have to be replaced. The second sa is on it's way to California so gsxfjim can do some measuring and get it to the machine shop for some "adjustments". I'm thinking gixxer subframe. Tomorrow the stock subframe is coming off the bike and I'll take some pics so you guys can see where it's at so far. As always, any advice or comment are welcome.

So now that I have just about all of Dennis' suspension parts here I have a plan to narrow the Duc arm to get the right spacing and get the wheel centered with the front. I will also be milling off the stock steering stops and making 2 eccentrics that will be used to adjust the forks to keep them from hitting the tank. I'll have more images when I take the arm and the bottom yoke to the shop next week.
I should also have the new stem back next week as well.

I did make this piece today, a bearing 'blank', it may not look like much but it has the same basic dimensions of the lower bearing this will allow me to assemble the yokes/forks in the test frame without having to press the lower bearing on the stem before it gets anodized and we all know how you get a pressed bearing off the stem.. no sense wasting a good bearing just for a test fit.
