  • Do people hate motorcyclists that much...

    Read to the bottom:
"He suffered severe bone damage and tissue loss and required more than 500 stitches and titanium plates inserted in his face...he remained in a coma for five days."

What the hell! Reminds me of those stories about people intentionally putting oil down on the the corners of heavily moto'd roads. Some people take their land rights (and the public land surrounding them) a little too seriously.
    Watch out for those BUICKS!

Thats totally messed up. Those are some really sick people.

Sad thing is they will probably get off with just a slap on the wrist.

Wearing helmets is NOT a civil rights issue - it is a safety issue, period!

There sure as hell better be a follow up to that story. Isn't that up in NoCal where those idiot DJ's were telling people to open up their car doors when bikes lane-split? Jackasses!

That is totally unbelievable. There was a clear disregard to the rider's well being and considering the degree it was pre-mediated make's it so much worse. Unfortunately, they'll at most only get nailed with a form of aggravated assault once their trial ends. If I was the rider, I would definitely pursue a civil suit against them.

Unfortunately, such opinions and hatred are quite common, from those who have a bad mental affiliation with bikers because a Hell's Angel roughed up their ego (or face) in a bar when they got too bolsterous, to those who are simply sick of having their Sunday peace disturbed by derestricted exhausts roaring in the distance. Hell, people get pissy about being passed in traffic jams just because they can't move forward in their cages -- and I mean road-rage deadly pissy.

The only upside is that most people who have this kind of latent hostility will never act on it. The downside is that three morons did, and unfortunately, they won't be the first or last to do so... I've had people intentionally try to run me off the road with their vehicles -- in my mind it is exactly the same concept in general (intent to injure, maim or kill).

I agree with Kat-a-Tonic that every avenue needs to be pursued, including civil trials.

+1 , the thought process alone, not to even mention acting on it, is enough for me to consider taking legal action. Its just digusting to see this type of thing actually being played out in today's world but similar events happen far too often as CP mentioned.

And people wonder why some motorcycle riders have a chip on their shoulder, or ride in big groups all the time.. well hell, when idiots are allowed to run rampant in the general public like this one, we need all the help we can get !

Me thinks there ought to be a pinata event at the Rally involving such individuals [EDIT: as the pinata's... (OK, maybe that's too much vigilante justice, but why use a dump truck? A kat is perfectly capable of pulling them down the asphault as well, and accelerates a lot faster).

I agree that what those people did is terrible and I think that they should end up in jail for a long time. They should also be forced to pay for the rider's medical cost along with pain and suffering.

On the other hand I would be interested in hearing the story leading up to this. Were the bikers trespassing? Do they tear up trails and make a mess of the area? Unfortunately there are a lot of irresponsible riders out there. We need to do our part to not give the general public a reason to hate us.

Takes a whole-whole lot to anger me, but I have no sympathy for those who try to kill/maim for life/seriously injure others intentionally... Falls into the same category as people who set live animals on fire or rape pre-pubescent children -- I tend to believe I'd have no compunctions about removing them from the shallow end of the gene pool.

8 hours sleep in the last 65 hours may be clouding my responses... but I really do feel that way somewhere deep down.

What is wrong with people? Reading things like that makes me loose my faith in the human race.

That is pretty f'ed up. But what gets me is at the end of the story they ask for people "with any other information" to contact to sheriff. Sounds to me like they will get a slap on the wrist unless any other witnesses show up. The other bikers statement isn't good enough because he's a biker.

When my dad bought a house many moons ago, his backyard was a federal nature preserve. Now this is in NJ right by the GW Bridge so theres zero open land out there. His neighbor tells him this story:

A few years before he bought the house, there would be guys riding dirtbikes at night through the preserve. Its foot traffic only and supposed to be "closed" at night. So they're in there totally illegal. Its Now its a small park not many acers you're always near a house when you're in there. These bikes would zip around at all hours with loud open exhausts, someone would call the cops, cops would come and see the headlights of the bikes and hear them, but couldnt get in there any catch them. So this started happening every weekened and eventually the cops stops coming because they knew they couldnt do anything about it, started telling homeowners to call some federal number to complain. People put up signs and one guy used a megaphone to yell at them, but they kept coming.

One night someone puts a chain across one of the paths between two trees. Caught one of the riders in the chest and sent him to the hospital. Cops cut the chain and asked around but nobody would own up to it. Next weekend there was another chain up in a different spot, and that was the last time anyone wrote through there at night.

Now in the story of my father's house I dont feel bad for those guys. They knew they were keeping people awake after midnight and tearing up a nature preserve and didnt give a crap because the cops couldnt catch them. The story in this thread didnt say what those bike riders were doing, if it was illegal, and what lengths these residents went to try and get their neighborhood back. Theres two sides to every story.
