  • two up on a 600 Kat

I've never owned a Katana, but I'm thinking of getting one. I was figuring on a 750, but it looks loke a 2002 with very low miles is for sale locally for $3000.00.KBB would be about $3800.00.My question is is the 600 a bit underpowered or cramped for two-up riding?I'm 5'10" and about 200.The wife and I together are about 360.Or should I hold out for a 750?
I did test ride a few of the older series Kats, and found the good running ones to be a fun ride.

    Thanks, Jon

Physically, they are virtually identical other than the engines (and even those share most of the same basic design and accessories).

The 750's handlebars have an extra riser and rubber mat to isolate the handlebars from vibration more than the 600's, plus about a 15% - 20% difference in get-up-and-go (& a bit more speed at the very top end -- arpimd 144 mph vs. around 135 for the 600), and plus a remote for the rear shock damping adjustment... Aside from that, they are pretty much the same bike.

More-over, once you're cruising at speed, there isn't any significant differences. Both have the same basic GVWR and cargo load weight ratings (the 600 can take about 10lbs more because the engine weighs 10lbs less and uses the same frame), the same brakes, same general suspension feel.

    Cheers

I have never 2 uped on the 600, but I used to 2 up on my 750 a lot, and I am a BIG guy. Had no problems hitting the twisites with a good passanger, and even got low enough to scrape the pegs a few times.

depending on your size, I would prolly look at the 750 over the 600 for the extra power. Specially if you plan to 2 up ride a lot. Then again, if you are a tiny person like DJ, then it prolly wouldn't matter much. Yeah, he is a midget, I said it!!!

I 2 up on my 600 regularly. Never had any problems. There is still enough power to try to launch your lady-friend off the back easily (not that I've tried...on purpose...).

My Bandit is a 600, and I've never had any problems with passengers, including my 6' 2" 220lb roommate who played "obnoxious passenger" when I was learning to ride.

I'm 6', 250+ lbs. My fiance is [edited for safety's sake]...less than me by quite a bit and we ride just fine.

Unless you've got someone on the back that's 400+, you're going to be just fine.
