  • fuel tank interchangeability?

Hey guys, I tried to search this, but the word "pre" was too short to search and without it i got some funky results :P

My fuel tank on my pre 600 kat has some pretty severe rust inside, and some pinholes in the tank itself, so instead of screwin' around with it any more, I was planning on just swapping it out for a new, used tank.

well, upon searching on ebay, I found a bunch! but they are either in very nice condition (very pricey) or total junk. but i've found quite a few post600 kat tanks.. would they mount up to a pre kat and look ok? I have my fairings stripped off, it's a sf bike, (check my prof and find my SF finished topic to see what i mean).

But, any help i could get would be greatly appreciated. I want to get a new tank reguardless, because the whole thing is pretty botched up. I filled a TON of dents in the tank, and it has little bubbles from fuel leakage all over the bottom section of the tank, so i kinda said hell with trying to keep fixing small things, and repainting, and then fixing.. and repainting every time..

    thanks guys

No, the tank from the post won't work without some significant work in mounting, and remolding the body panels.

Since it's a fighter with no main fairings, it would bolt right on. The fuel sensor is different but a small modification of connectors on either side to match them can fix that. I would suggest you use your old petcock on the new tank.
