I always thought the 65 was the nicest looking. My Dad had one in 66. It was a Marina blue, black interior, 350 horse, 327 4 speed car. It was a 12 bolt with 3.73 gears & would spin the tires pretty good in 4th gear. I miss that one, it was a beautiful car! Ray.

The G-Body is a solid platform. Lots of cheap / easy upgrades. One of the last full frame vehicles...

500 Caddy motors will BOLT in.. (ask me how I know).

And a fully dressed Caddy 500 (stock iron intake replaced with a simple Edelbrock Performer alum intake) weighs just 100lbs more than a small block Chevy.

Lots of handling upgrades as well.

Might want MAKE SURE that Elco has a 350 in it...that model would have come with a 305. Check the VIN #...if the 8th digit is a 'H'..then it came with LG4 (lo po) 305. If he claims he put a 305 in it, might want to check the casting # on the engine before you lay down cash for it.

I never got the point. If you want a truck, buy a truck Same with those damn SUTs (wtf is an SUT anyway). But to each their own. Congrats on the purchase.

P.S. I know what an SUT is supposed to be, just dont understand the utility of a 4 foot bed

I think an El Camino + a Cadillac 500 engine would = a vehicle that refuses to ever go straight, and eats tires on a monthly basis! They aren't much in the horsepower department, but they have such unbelievable torque. I had a 73 Eldorado, and ever since then I have wanted to shove one of those engines in something super-light like a Cobra replica.

Not as bad as you might think. You just have to make some mods (they can be done on the cheap) to get it to hook.

I've done the 500 swap into a G-Body wagon, an ElCo and a Buick T-Type (he already had a GN I think he just did it to **** off the Turbo Buick guys he hangs with)..

The ElCo ended up having 2.73 gears. With the 500 ft/lbs (not a typo) of the Caddy (that's stock BTW) and the Turbo 400 it actually hooked well with the highway gears. It would stilll smoke 'em if you wanted to..but an off idle launch made that thing go..

The Wagon, complete with the factory "Wood grain" paneling was an ABSOLUTE BLAST to drive around in. People would laugh at it until they saw it run. Of course the wagon had a few mods...custom long tube headers, exhaust, alum intake, modified Q-Jet, cam, valvesprings (Caddy springs are notorious for valve float) etc etc..

The Elco in question started out as a "Well I need something to tow my boat and motorcycles with. I have this El Camino with a weak 305 and a smoked tranny, and this Eldo with a great motor and more rust than metal....Hmmm.."

                  It did that very well.

And the EARLY Caddy motors had more HP Than you might think...

                  The '70 500 had 550 ft/lbs of torque..AT 3000 RPM...and right at 400 HP.

I would imagine...... it would probably town the boat, the motorcycles, and the house as well....

I'm sure they still have more HP than most engines, but after the massive torque down so low, mine definitely felt like it was running out of breath once the revs got up a little bit. Could be the 35 year old Quadra-Junk, I dunno.

Mine had a 305 and the cam was changed out to a stock 350 unit
It had no problem burning up the rear tires

my neighbor in college dropped a small block into an '89 S10. That thing would blow the tires off going into third- in a 4 gear auto tranny. He ended up putting about 300lbs in the bed to reduce burnouts.
