Just avoid the really crappy gas no matter what octane. Running gas with proper detergents and whatnot is very valuable when riding a bike with carbs as testy as the kats. Shell and Chevron gas are my personal faves, arco/ampm gas is my most popular least fav.

Maybe you should try 100 octane race fuel.

run 87 or 89 whatever is the lowest on your area

people have a mis conception about gas.
the higher the octane DOES NOT mean the gas is "better" or "Cleaner"

the OCTANE rating is used to provide you with a basic rule on what could the purpose of that gas can be used

what the octane tells us? it tells us about how much heat can the gas sustain before it self combusts...

for those who have turbo cars, built it yourselves, and have taken EFI class, you will know what i mean.

when you compress air/gasoline, its temperature goes up, the more it goes up the better the chance that heat can self combust that mixture and cause knocking (pinging) which is bad for engines

when we have "high performance" engines, we are altering the charge and amount of air/fuel mixture, by altering that,we can cause the temperatures to rise, thats when its recomended to raise the octane rating on the gas.

on race cars, when the engines are heat soaked, or force inducted, the higher the octane the better, thats why we got the 105+ octane for racing only.

I didn't know that, thanks for the feedback.

I think it was moisture. I drained the tank, refilled at a place I use all the time in my wife's car and it's running well for at least the 40 miles I put on yesterday.
