i have a 1996 kat 600. i had this problem last year and thought is was a starter issue. i replaced the starter and the relay and it seemed to fix my problem. well winter rolled around and took bike apart to work on it and went to reconnect my battery and not im having the same problem. it will continue even with the kill switch off and key off. any advice would be great!

If you replaced the starter relay, and the bike won't shut off now... I'd suspect you might have done something wrong with that relay.-Steve

Is the starter not turning off? Or is it the motor itself not turning off?
I'm going to assume its the starter, if so, your melting the relay in the run position(closed). Which tells everyone, too much power running through it or just a really cheaply made relay. A replacement will work as a temp, however, you need to track down the cause of the excess power that's keeping it on.
