  • Project "Historical Racer"

    Hello Everyone!

I just bought very first bike, and it's a 93 Katana!

Its gonna be a streetfighter, and the theme will be related to the color scheme of old racing suzuki. (see below)

the bike was in fair conditions:
    -rebuilt carbs
    -rebuilt forks
    -new brakes
    -new tires
-fairing damaged (who cares! Ill trash them in any case!)
-the bike was not starting, needed new coils
-exposed to weather for the last 2 years

Being the first project and wanting to use this bike for everyday use, Im not going to do anything extreme.. but just a clean and simple streetfighter.
I took tips and suggestion posted in all the other projects in this forum

so I started the stripping and cutting excess parts..

the first step was to clean the tail from the bulky fender, and replace with a simple plate and indicator lights bracket. In this pictures the lateral fairings are trimmed, the fender is trimmed.

    Result

then it was time for the only two other fairings that will be re installed on the bike

    Results:

I know that there are several reasons to use the OEM airbox and not go with bare cone filters... But It look good! (and so far it runs smooth). Also I found that there are drilled holes in the airbox.. any ideas?

    the new headlamp

Im already working on the reassembly of the tail with indicator lights, plate and plate lights..

In the mean time Im making a temporary bracket for the gauges. It will be used as a template for the final bracket which will house also the LEDs for neutral and all the other dash lights.

More pictures by the end of the weekend!

c-rod90 I will post picture soon of the outlook of the engine air scoop on the bike

tonight work was on the exhaust.
The manifold was on terrible shape and since I dont have the money to replace with a stainless steel one,
the cheapest solution is to sanded it and wrap it with fiberglass exhaust tape.

      This solution costed only 20$!

It gives the manifold a custom/racing look and makes the exhaust stand out in a pretty dark area

Luckily the previous owner replaced the mid section and the terminal of the exhaust with Vance & Hines.. which is chromed and has an external aluminum cover .. so just a nice clean with polish they look like brand new.

That's not a stock pre exhaust manifold.
          nice work on the wrap.

If it's got the V&H can, it's probably the V&H full system.

While Im at work having some free time, I made a computer sketch of what the dash will look like..

I found for few bucks a LED array for the fuel meter and some colored LEDs for the dash lights.
                      blue for high beam
                      green for neutral
                      red for oil
                      amber for both indicator lights

this plate will be connected as a bridge between the two gauges using the same hose clamps.

(the speedometer and tachometer are not the same of the katana.. but close enough)

I will post a technical drawing with dimensions if anyone is interested.

                        very quick question!

I need to replace the fuel tank cap.

Is it a specific size for this bike or is it common across all the suzuki?

                        thanks
