  • Got my 2002 Kat 600 fixed

Shade tree mechanic, but finally the sun is shining.
I have had my kat for about 4 months. Bought from a owner who said did not ride much, and also told me to use reserve for riding the regular was finicky. Regardless I used normal and worked fine. However idle was off and would usually die at a red light, so ran some sea foam with little improvement.
Not having the dough for a carb rebuild and sync $450 plus parts, kept riding.
Last week it would bog after riding for 20-30 minutes, but then come back.
Finally last week it would die and not start back up for 1/2 hour.
Ran on prime would restart but hard to start, sometimes die again.
    Pulled plugs all looked normal.
found fuel filter cracked so thought maybe bike sucking air through gas line replaced fuel filter.
    Same problem.
Saw wet edges around petcock valve, tightened, stopped leaking, same problem.
    Figured plug wires or coils.
Got used tested set off ebay replaced, somewhat better but no power bogging.
Bought new petcock off ebay $58.
    guess what? problem solved.
When I pulled old petcock the filter was clean so maybe diaghram was messed up.
And yes vacuum lines were correctly routed.
    Now idles nice too.

Does the $450 + parts include dinner?

No, but it does come with the prospect of an .....uhm..... "amorous encounter" if you play your cards right

        Hahaha

Glad it was just the petcock, fuel flow is pretty important
90% of motorcycle forum members do not have a service manual for their bike.
