  • First Track Day Coming Up - Advice and Tips Wanted

I have my first track day coming up this Saturday.

Just had my bike serviced so it's running nice.

The only way I can get there is on my bike so I'm travelling light.

    I'm taking with me.......

    Bike
    Leathers, helmet, boots, gloves
    Chain lube
All the usual tools incl. a foot pump
    Tinted and clear visors
    Water/food

My "support crew" will be arriving about lunch in a car so they can carry some stuff up. Like what though? Any advice about what to bring?

Can anyone offer some advice for the day.........take it slow for a couple of laps until the tyres warm up sort of stuff??

    Cheers, Rob

Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Make a list of everything you need and then check things off when getting stuff together.

Get some potassium tablets and take one between every session to avoid cramps and getting tired. Believe me, this works!

Ride YOUR pace, and don't try to make a race out of it. Remember, there is no prize for finishing the day except the satisfaction of accomplishment in learning! The only prize many consider is getting home in one piece!

Definately use the first lap of two as warm up laps to get the tires up to temp. Nothing sucks worse that packing it up early because you were too stupid to be patient. Ask me how I know!

Use the day as a learning experience. After all, that is what these days are really for.

I have done about 2000 miles at Hockenheimring. Their track days are very informal, in fact they are commonly referred to as "suicide Thursdays." There is no limit to number of bikes on track, you get the idea. What kinda tires are you running? That makes a big difference. Be carefull, the foot petal on the center stand can drag and it sucks when it does. You have to lean WAAAY off the bike to get your knee down before the foot pegs. Have a good time and don't be intimitated by the squids on the latest and greatest. They will blow by you on the straights, Like they said, just go out and have a good time. You may need masking tape depending on the trackday. Sometimes they want your lights taped off.

Keep it rubber side down and your knees in the breeze.
