  • Brake lines for a Pre-750

I've been pricing replacement brake lines and wrestle with what to get. I'm planning on keeping the Kat another year, maybe two and realize that running on old lines is just a bad idea. At the same time, I don't want to throw a ton more money into a bike that I'm likely going to sell in the future.

SS lines are awesome, but expensive. If I had the money in my pocket, I'd have a set already.

What's the best bang for one's buck in brake line purchases (likely just doing the fronts, as the back is barely used now)?

HEL's from HS2020, you can not go wrong with them.

I agree, Chris. And, if I go with SS's, I'm buying them from Jimmy. I'm just being a cheap bastage and looking for alternatives to spending the extra $$$. Momma's gotten real tight with my discretionary funds lately and I gotta make every dime count.

Your gonna be spending around 80 -100 for the 3 factory lines anyways, I don't think Jimmy is too much north of that. Plus you have to get all the crush washers and everything. I forget what I paid for mine, like $130'ish from Jimmy. It's been awhile though, prices may have changed.

There may be 3 lines for the front, I forget. Jimmy's makes the system much less complicated, and it's just 2 lines.

I got Goodridge lines from 58cycle dot com for $80 shipped..
I wish I went the extra for HEL, but I'm not planning on selling mine.

My only advice is that you should run a two line kit on the front, and delete the stupid distribution block. It took me FOREVER and a day to get the front brakes bled.

Now, if you plan to go ultra cheap... you can get a set of the Russell SS Brake lines. I bought some from Special K a few years ago for a really good price... but if I had it to do over again, I would just put the HEL lines on.

I would say that the russell lines are about 80% as good.... but that 20% makes a BIG difference. I can easily stop the Bandit with two fingers and a little pressure. The kat is a little slower to stop, and needs more lever.

If you need proving.... feel free to swing by and I'll give you a ride on each of the bikes... you can figure it out for yourself.

Lastly... I *think* you should be able to use any lines with a banjo fitting and the correct bolts... instead of the stupid connector that comes stock (and is almost impossible to torque correctly).

Around $150 from Jimmy, I think.

$95 for the front, $45 for the rear + S/h.

If you do the rear, be VERY carefull. They lock up quicker than :insert smirky comment here.

I had to adjust my pedal down so i didn't smash em and lock up the rear.

There's an idea. You could always just replace the front lines.... that'll stop you pretty quick and save you $45. (I would still flush the fluid from the old rear line anyway).

Since I don't use it often (even less since I chewed up the rotor), I'm just going to do the front lines, rebuild the rear caliper, replace rear rotor & pads and call it a deal.
