  • pre 98 front rotors on 98+ kat

ok i just got this bike (01 kat 600) and its been nothing but A headache.i rode an 06 kat 750 yesterday and holy crap it made me want to throw mine in the dumpster. anyways i noticed that my front brakes are off of a 96 600 kat.why would the previous owner do that? in my opinion these brakes suck and hardly work compared to the brakes on the kat i rode yesterday.

The early brakes are better IMO! 4 piston calipers. You may need new pads?

Send HS2020 a PM, he sells HEL Brake Lines. I have Goodridge Carboline I got from ebay, if I didn't I would go for the HEL

HS2020 also sell good quality pads for a good price. If you're going to replace the front pads, you might as well replace the back ones too.

I poured spot remover on my dog. Now he's gone.

ok, ok, let me step in here and set this straight. You're post states pre 98 rotors, now that is possible, I had no idea rotors had pistons. ALL Katana calipers 88-06 have 4 piston front calipers. If only your rotors are pre 98 (which they are because you CAN NOT use pre 98 calipers on a post) Then it will make 0 difference, get new pads and

I'll venture to say he means that the pre's have 4 opposable piston calipers per caliper. Whereas the posts have 4 total piston calipers up front.

Heck! I dont know! I could have sworn I has stairing at a two piston caliper on a 03 600?

Maybe the guy changed it out for some odd reason?

I just looked in a later manual and I was not seeing things! Post98 does use 2 piston calipers!

                      Oh here we go...
90% of motorcycle forum members do not have a service manual for their bike.

                        Rotors:
You can put 98+ rotors on a pre98... but I don't think you can put pre98 rotors on a 98+. The 98+ are slightly smaller as I recall.

                        Brakes:
If you are having issues with the quality of breaking on an older bike, it's likely brake pads and break lines. Heck, the lines might just need to be bled.
What makes you think the calipers are from a pre98?

you can put pre 98 rotors on a 98+ 98-02 anyway.

i will get pics tomorrow, the rotors are in fact off of a 96 gsx 600,i know this cause its written in sharpie on the hub of the rotor.and the calipers i am assuming came from the same bike only cuase the 98+ kats say tokico on the caliper and look a little bigger than whats on mine.maybe the whole front is off of a pre 98 kat?
