  • Jet Kit question

After grinding down the welds in my header pipes will there be need for any other mods to the engine or carbs, i.e jet kit
I'm sure I'm running lean with the slip-on( popping on decel) will the grinding of the welds effect this in any way (the running lean)?
    Thanks in advance Bros, Later

yeah, it's gonna push that kinda lean condition right over the edge, jet that bad boy. Ivan's kit, slip on, and stock air filter, with the weld seems gone that will be perfect, just get a 5 degree advancer thats all I would recommend.

Or at the very least do a poor man's kit . Slightly larger main jets (can be had for $20 a set) , and drill out the pilot caps to adjust the screws . That'll help . Until you can afford the jet kit , anyway . It's the new needles that are the most expensive and important part of most jet kits .

I keep reading on here that stock needles only have the 1 place to put the E clip, that must be on US models as mine has 3 notches and is a stock part. (# 5DH29-54 (3) ).

That said, does this give me an added benefit for fuelling/tuning, without buying a jet kit. (Poor man's setup).

I have a full aftermarket exhaust to put on but am currently not fitting it as I have not sufficient funds at this time of year to purchase anything else. (Santa needs all the help he can get )

I am thinking that changing the E clip to the lower position will raise the needle in the jet and thus make it richer?

          Changing the clip position :
Think of it like this .... if the needle sits lower in the jet , it's gonna let less gas through . So "dropping the needles" , or raising the clip position a notch , will lean it out a tad . It gets confusing , because one person's "going up a notch" will be another person's "dropping a notch" . Just wanna avoid any confusion ....

Yes I see your point, I meant 'lowest' as the needle is orientated in the engine, i.e. closest to the 'tip' that enters the jet.
            -
            = highest position
            = median position
            = lowest position

With getting a jet kit, advancer and grinding down the weld seams, will I still need to drill out the clips and tun the piolet screws? if so how much or is it a trail and error thing
