Probably your nuetral switch. Mine went a few years back. It is behind the sprocket cover and not too hard to fix. Procedure is inthe manual. Good luck!!

Maybe a loose wire or a bare wire somewhere.

I would agree as well. Mine would work when cold, then sporatically as it was warming up, then not work at all when at operating temps.

As was said, a fairly easy fix.

I think specialK said a little while back that he had some used ones in stock . You can PM him if you want to go the used route. My local wrecking yard didn't have them so I ordered it from the dealer.

Hey, I just replaced my neutral switch. You can reference Neutral Switch posting. I had no idea what I was getting into and learned as I went along. It was very easy once you’ve done it once. This is what you do if you have to replace the switch.

See Gear Shifting #46 for the Neutral switch.
See Crankcase Cover #25 short, #27 long, and #26 medium for bolt lengths

          1. Purchase the new switch.
          2. Remove the seat
          3. Remove the lower fairing
          4. Remove left upper fairing bolts (3) and pull out the fairing may be tight due to hooked parts (don’t remove the fairing) this will give you room to work.
          5. Remove the gear shift linkage by marking the placement on both places. You’ll need a 10mm wrench/socket and a pair of external ring pliers (there’s a flat washer behind the ring clip) and slide it off.
          6. Get a set of long metric Allen wrenches and remove the crankcase cover. 6 bolt all together. 2 short for bottom, 3 long across the middle and 1 medium for the top. Leave the cover hanging.
          7. You’ll see the Neutral switch and place something underneath to catch some oil when you remove it (2 screws).
          8. I cut the switch and the connectors on top to pull out the old cable.
          9. Remove the rubber ring gasket from the old switch and reuse it.
          10. Run the new switch down from the top.
          11. I used tie-wraps instead of running the new cable into cable ties and behind the metal bracket (you’ll know what I’m referring to).
          12. At this time I also cleaned and lubed the linkage behind the sprocket cover.
          13. Now replace everything in the reverse order.
          14. Make sure that the cable for the side stand switch runs along the outside of the crankcase cover.
          15. I needed to adjust my clutch after, if you need to see HS2020’s HOW TO for clutch adjustment.

Good luck and I hope that this fixes your problem.
