  • #2 backfiring out the carb

    Hey guys,

Didn't ride the bike last year, just had it stored... started it up a few times a month, and had stabil in the gas the whole time. For winter storage, I pulled the carbs and brought them inside for the winter.

I took them apart, everything looked to be really clean in the bowls, so I figured not to fiddle with the pilot or main jet.

Now, the bike is back together, sync'd the carbs, but i have very frequent backfiring through the carbs from cylinder #2. Mostly at idle, but when i'm riding at low speeds (~4000rpm) I can still hear some backfiring happening but less frequently.

Ran some carb cleaner through, let it sit for the night, ran it some more. Problem was still there. Pulled the tank + filter, tried steam cleaning... nothing, tried spraying some carb cleaner while running... still backfiring.

so... what now? I'm guessing its a gunked up pilot from not running for so long... would that make sense? anything else I can do to try and resolve this without pulling/disassembling the carbs?

I want to jet it with an Ivan's kit, does this include a new pilot? I'm waiting for an aftermarked exhaust that is on backorder (two bros.) but I don't know how long that will take to arrive.

    suggestions!?!?

    Thanks!
    BR

      yup.. they're there... lol

haven't checked the gap but i did ride for a month at the beginning of last summer, and put new iridium ones in at the time. didn't foul then, and looked fine before i tightened them down when prepping it this year, haven't looked at them yet about this issue.

How would a plug cause firing out the carbs?
