  • Hard Saddlebags?

Does anyone know of a source for hard saddle bags that will fit Katana? I looked at a brand called Givi, looks like they might work, but not crazy about the look of them. Would be a plus if they came in gloss black, so they would match my bike!

Givi stuff is top notch. I've got a full set for my VFR and can't say enough good about them. I believe Krauser also makes racks for the Katana, so you may give them a look.

http://www.twistedthrottle.com is a great place to get either brand.

There's a dude on here who used some trunks from JCW and somehow secured them to some rack to make hard bags .....

        Givi is good stuff

The Givi stuff is nice, but expensive. Brackets from Twisted Throttle:

Who makes the brackets to mount GIVI sidebags to the Kat?

Every place that I've looked the mounts are discontinued.

Twisted Throttle still lists the Krauser side mounts, but only the topcase mount from Givi.

                hard bags

                Try this site.

                type givi in search
some do come in metallic black.
Kappa cases fit the Give mounts. Cheaper, same quality.
If installing the tubular mounts, turn signal wiring has to be extended.
                Good luck

The brackets on my bike are from Twisted Throttle, they are the SW Motec quick lock ones. (Plan on several months of waiting for them to arrive, though.) They can adapt to pretty much any hard or soft bag on the market, one way or another, and have kits for some of the more common luggage manufacturers. The turn signals do get relocated to the plate bracket, but I was able to re-route the factory wiring and didn't have to extend anything.

I took a closer look at your photo - your Kat is a 750 and mine is a 600. The rack you have is made for the 750 and from what I've been told there's enough difference that they won't work.

                        Really ? 'Cause from what I've heard the 98-up Kats are the same 600 vs/ 750 , with a taiul change in '03 .....
BTW , what's the top case ? Does it pop off with a key ? I'm shopping for a trunk right now myself , and want one that'll pop off quick & easy with a key instead of having to unbolt it .

                          My top case?

M top case is a $20 scooter one off e-bay, and it's bolted to the factory rack. Since the factory rack is only held on with 2 bolts, though, it's pretty easy to ditch the whole thing and toss the grab bar back on.

I actually have a big trunk for the back that matches the side bags, and is considerably larger than the little scooter trunk. It mounts with a quick-release plate to the luggage rack, so it can come on and off quickly.

Problem is that I can't were my boots through the metal detector at work, which means at a minimum I need to carry a set of shoes and my lunch to work with me. That's a bit much for the tank bag and not enough to justify the pontoons. The little scooter trunk fills that bill for me, so for what I do it's fine to leave it on there pretty much all the time.

BTW, there are a couple people selling the luggage I got on e-bay again, in case someone wants to get a set:

That topcase is HUGE. Do you have any problems at speed? Like aerodynamic issues?

Yeah , I see those all OVER Fleabay . I was REALLY hoping to find one that pops off with a key like on my old bike . . I've looked at the JCW ones , but the reviews are less than favorable .
