Ok. Apparently I suck with the search thing on this site. I found some of the 411 I needed for the conversion parts and how to etc. The only real question I guess I have left is if you make the conversion can you then use undertail kits for 03^ kats and or Busa? I would really like an undertail kit, or at the very least integrated tail lights. If you can use later model Kat undertails after conversion, do you have to cut the storage area all to hell? Again I apologize for not finding the info through search, but i looked through over ten pages of results and most of em had nothing to do with the conversion. Thanks for the help.

I am not sure about the under tail kits, but yes you can use the integrated tail lights. Also the integrated tail light would also make the job a little easer because you need just one tail light socket for the integrated tail light install.

Yes you can make the change. You will need the new tail section, tail light and rear seat lock cable. Then you can buy the newer type undertails and use the integrated signal/tail light kits.
Here is my 1998
Now a 2005
And integrated signal/tail light kit.

As for the storage area. Your new undertail will change all that. My new undertail has the battery box molded with it. The old one from my 1998 didn't. I had to cut the original battery box to leave in and then the undertail continued from there.Bike is sold

The cable is actually longer. The 98 wouldn't reach since the lock mechanism on the 2003 and newer is slightly farther back the tail.
Originally posted by The CyberPoetSpeedy, why the cable-lock change? It appears the cable and release mechanisms remain in approximately the same place (or did I overlook something?)?

If you planning on doing the tail change I now have a spare cable (Long one) and also part #5 which is brand new but didn't need it since I bought an Artbibras undertail.

I have not decided yet. I think I will prolly just let it be. Do an easy fender elimator and be done with it. I am curious where you got Those GSXF skickers though. I really like those. I like the raised Katana ones also if anyone has info on those. Thanks
