Let us know how it stands up.. I am looking for some header paint for this winter. What brand, price, how to get it, etc.

I was planning on using POR-15 high temp paint.

that would be in farenheit... i'm not too sure it would last so well on the actual headers... but, the can tends to stay a bit cooler... I'll let you know how it hold up as soon as it stops raining.

Just out of curiosity, why would you need 3000 degree paint? The melting point of nickel (the lowest melting point of the metals in the alloy) is around 1450 degrees. That means the exhaust would be close to melting by the time the temp was high enough ruin the paint. In that case, those temps would also be burning anything close to them. Same with the headers. At 3000 degrees if it's not already melted, it's glowing like crazy. (I don't remember melting points for metals exactly, but I'm sure we melted iron at around 1500 degrees for pouring.)

Edit: Just checked and found that the melting point of Type 304 stainless steel is 1420 degrees Celsius (2588 degrees Fahrenheit). I don't know what type of SS exhausts are made of, but it they're close, they'll melt before the paint is effected. Even at 1500 degrees F, it'll burn your leg just being near it.

Bike headers can get REAL hot . I've heard about the high-heat header paint and engine enamel stuff , SUPPOSEDLY good to 1200f , burning off .

I saw on a site they suggested using header wrap for the first 6 inches or so... would this totally fix the problem of even high temp paints pealing?

I'm trying for myself this week, but the cold months are setting in here in WI, so I probably won't get considerable miles to wear in the exhaust paint until spring... I'll update then, though.
