K&N air filter will = problems. don't use one. Use OEM type air filter.

With the exhaust, you may already have a jetkit. I'd suggest you check that first. You can simply pull the cap off one of the carbs and look at the jet needle. If it has more than 1 slot of the eclip, it's already jetted.

My Kat hit 130k miles problem free before a cager took it out so I can promise you, you're not at high miles yet.

+ 1 to NOT getting a k&n. Katanas run lean to begin with so a high flow filter will lean it out more. As will the aftermarket exhaust. So...you'd be running very very lean.
Ivan's are supposed to be good kits, but Krey is right, doesn't hurt to check and see if you already have one first. Factory pro jet kits are also good.

General suggestions: replace fork oil and brake fluid, grease wheel/steering stem/swing arm bearings. Probably never been done.

Thank you Krey did some digging found out I'm -1 on the front sprocket and i believe it has been rejet looks like k@n jet kit I haven't changed fork oil but "full service" from a pretty medium rep used bike shop has that at 18??? Miles bike now has 24000 I dug threw the heap of stuff seller gave me reg service 2k ago bike was up for 6 months he said he rode it around block was a pretty decent guy things to tackle now fork service and still the engine noise I have read so much about this noise and where I live the bike mechanic is pretty much can't spell katana so I've pretty much narrowed it down to a lil bit of valves by I'm ok with that I believe but the chain tension has got to be slack or it's border line throwing a rod idk lil scared haha so a few more questions for the more experienced rider and bike tech thicker oil for hot ass Florida maybe help if it's a rod bearing more for heat tho I know it's oil cooled so un sure next question I really love this bike and now I've checked most and greased all what can I do to make sure it's gonna be reliable like I hear they are maybe a dumb question just a noob and worried about it

24k is barely broke in man, it's not high milage at all. Think about it... that's an 02 model... it's 15 years old now. That works out to avg of 1600 miles a year. Dude, one day riding for me is 2-300 miles taking it easy, just putzing around. That would be like riding the bike 5 times a year? Not high milage... at all.

Heavier oil weight wouldn't hurt in hotter climate.

The valve noise... probably not an issue. A valve check isn't a bad idea, pretend it hasn't been done even if someone says it was. Doesn't hurt to check em.

These engines are really solid. Never heard of a major cam issue on one at all. Worst case was the auto adjuster tensioner needed a new $3 spring put in.

The properly adjusted engine will sound like a fine tuned sewing machine... it's gonna have just a little bit of the tat tat sound normally.

Check the date code on your tires, 24K is nothing but with such low mileage on a 15 year old bike you might be riding around on dangerously old hard tires.

oil change
fork oil change
brake fluid change
valve adjustment
lube your cables
inspect/adjust/clean/lube the chain

after that start looking into mods, but in the meantime enjoy your ride.

got an '02 600 a few months ago myself. loving the bike right now. I made the mistake of buying the k&n filter before any research just because I wanted to replace the one on the bike. one day of riding I was like wtf and put the old one back in. it's my first bike and i'm trying to learn all I can now about maintenance for it. I've done the little things like replacing the brake fluid, oil and filter, check the brake pads. reading around and waiting for some time to dig in more in the bike.
