  • Front tire wearing strange??

    Or maybe its normal???

    Copy/paste from roadtrip thread.

    "Hey guys.

Im back in LA....I had to cut the trip short (as expected) due to excessive heat.

Day 1 I rode to Vegas and spent the day

Day 2 I rode from Vegas through Arizona to Utah and spent the day in Zion national park

Day 3 i spent half day in Utah and back to Vegas

Day 4 (Today) I went home....

It was so hot i could only really ride between 4 am and 8 am...After that it was a 100 + degrees.

Anyways, Im glad I did it and got to go to Zion which was the goal.

PS! My front tire is wearing???

    Suggestions??"

    I did about 1200 miles.

This tire is not mine but this is the style of wearing, although not as extreme as this picture???

looks like a bit of cupping is also starting to occur in that pic, if that is what your talking about then check your air pressure and stop using dumbflop tires. that is my 2 cents on the matter.

Any cause for buying a new tire or still good? Like I said, the tire has plenty of thread left, only the wear, but doesnt affect riding.

I would change the wheel bearings, head bearings check the balance, air pressure and rear wheel alignment first.

I can guarantee you that it does. You might be used to how it feels now because that wear has happened gradually over time. Good new hoops would transform how the bike handles, allowing it to tip into corners much more smoothly. It is probably starting to feel a little skittish in a straight line too, as it fights to keep that flat bit on the road over undulating surfaces.

Those are new tires, need to find why they wore like that.

Remember, the photo is not the OP's tyre. His wear is less. Although it would be good to know how many miles his tyres have done and to see the exact wear. Alignment, pressure, stiff bearings, grabbing brakes may be factors, but hot freeway miles certainly are.

That certainly gives you the inside knowledge of the tyres, but miles are better than months. I turned a new tyre into one that looked a lot like that Banglop in about 6000 miles (1 month) ... but I rode on. The rear lasted about 9000 miles, at which point rubber was just peeling off and the steel belts were exposed. That's on a perfectly tuned / aligned / new-bearinged ... Kat. But some weight and 110+ degrees (you could cook on the road surface) just melted the hoops. And while I'm now not convinced of the advertising BS, they were Pirelli Angel GTs - "the longest lasting tyre blah, blah, blah".

I hear that, every summer I blow a tire on something from the heat (hot roads)..... Seems to always be on nice fresh paved road when it goes...
