  • First day BTO23R on my 1990 Katana

Got my tires mounted and balanced today after getting them shipped to me. Thanks to 904 Performance @ $25 bucks per tire while I waited and that is with them taking them off for me while I had a nice lunch next door. (Never mind the Beverly Hillbilly look of me with my new tires strapped to the seat driving down the road on the way there.) Bike was sitting with new shoes when I walked back to the shop. Leaving there was the FIRST TIME since I bought it that I have ever ridden my bike with good tires. Man, what a difference! The bike wanted to turn. It was so easy. The flat rear tread wear and miss-matched model bias tires made curves of any kind feel dicey at best. This was smooth and easy. Smoother over-all ride as well. I am pleased. I'll have to see how they wear, but first impressions are great!

Now it's time to chop off that horrible shovel piece... if you look there is a perfect groove that already gives you a straight line to cut on. I used my highspeed dremel with a cutoff wheel to accomplish this, but you can also use a small hacksaw blade as well, or a heated stanley knife. Cut the shovel completely off, and then go back and clean up your cut marks. No turning back now!
