  • 600 vs 750

Hey, I am thinking of buying an early 90's Kat and am trying to decide if I should get one of the many 600cc's that are on CL right now or hold out for a 750. I am going to use it mostly for touring around the PNW. Any thoughts out there?

I own both, a 98 600 and a 00 750 and have also owned a 93 600. I get more fun out of the 600s than I do from the 750. I do a lot of riding in traffic and lane splitting which just feels more comfortable on the 600. On the canyons the 600 is easier to lean. The 750 just has more power which will be obvious to feel..........just my opinion from my personal experience.

I like my 600...It has power, but not toooo much. I can wind the heck out of it on the backroads while my friends riding their 1000's have to be much more lenient with the throttle

Flip a coin. If you're planning on any two-up riding, the 750 will be more capable, but the 600 will also perform well. The 750 will yield a slightly better seat-of-the pants feel advantage with 8-10 HP extra, give or take. Other than that, they're damn near identical.

There isn't that much difference between the two, but the 750 will give you a little more torque, so less need for shifting which can be easier in the long run for long rides/touring.

Other than that, they are pretty much the same weight/size really. Only slight differences for the pre kats...

            The tails are different.
600 has a slightly shorter wheelbase
750 has slight better touring ergos...

But... most parts are interchangable, and so you can just about "mod" any bike to have the options you want.

Like getting a 600 Bike for the sporty tail, putting a 1100 motor in it for the touring power, swapping the top of the triple for better touring ergo... etc..

Same here, love the 750 but I have no basis of comparison. I tried my buddy's GSX-R 600 (2004 i think?) and it had quite a bit of pep and was alot of fun. But I have no idea how it compares to a Kat

i would go 750 all the way. for touring you want that torque and better seating position.

                  the pep is worth it!

ridden a pre 750 on a lot of PNW highways and mountain scenic roads and loved the power up hills w 2 people. power is the main difference. i prefer 750

                    18hp and 11ft.lb makes a big difference

I had a 600 engine in my bike for a while. The difference in power is very noticeable. I've never ridden with the shorter wheelbase of the 600, but I have ridden with both 600 and 750 bars. There was a time I was doing 100 miles each day (commuting) 6 days per week on my old 750. The ergos were just about perfect.

If you're not power-hungry, and not going to do a lot of 2-up riding, but want to have good ergo's, I'd snatch up a 600 and swap the 750 triple and bars on it.

                            Thanks

Thanks for the help. It looks like it is a mixed bag, but at least I know people are happy with the 600's. I am going to check out a 1991 600 with 25.5K on it tonight. Here is a pic.
