The starter engages a gear that has a clutch to prevent backward starting, most likely the nut came loose. FYI Never turn the engine backward, it will damage that gear mechanism.

So if I pull the starter there will be a nut on the engine or starter side? And where can I find that spec? Ill be sure not to turn it backwards

No, pull the cover off the left side of the motor where the starter gear is.
