  • which kat?

hello everybody, im new to sport bikes, I have a full dressed touring but looking for a second bike to play with. I have three I am looking at. '89 750 for 1000$ '02 600 for1500$ (10,000 mi.) and "06 600 for 1300$ (20,000) which one would be the best buy?

If you're going to put 15-20k miles a year (or more) on it go with the lower milage 02 600. If you put on anything less than that, the mileage on it won't ever matter. My 06 is at 115k+ and just starting to show its age (not due to years, due to miles). Most people do ~3k miles/ year. If it's your second bike, you likely won't rack up the miles so save some $ and get the newer 06. The '89 will likely require more work just due to age.

Great advice, I agree completely. My only reason for getting the 89 would be if you are into that bike more.

But do you want to go for a ride, no hassle? Or would you enjoy ending up with a project?

If your wanting the sportier option, the 750 is the route to go of the choices.

The 02 and 06 are really not going to handle or perform differently. The pre 98 models are sportier in handling and performance yet still have comfortable seating and positioning.

Also the 750 will have a noticeable difference in power. That equates to keeping speed in gear vs needing to downshift on the 600s.

If the bikes are in good condition, I'd not be as worried about age. The tech is all the same to be honest. How they have been stored and maintained is more important.
